India, Tamil Nadu, October 27, 2025:
A persistent drizzle washed out the opening day’s play at the WTA Chennai Open 2025, forcing organisers to cancel all matches scheduled for Monday.
As a result, all 16 first-round singles matches will now be played on Tuesday, with play set to begin at 12 noon local time.
Top seed Zeynep Sonmez of Turkey will open proceedings on Centre Court against Tatiana Prozorova. She will be followed by third seed and Olympic silver medallist Donna Vekic, who faces India’s Vaishnavi Adkar in the day’s second match.
The much-anticipated all-Indian clash between Shrivalli Bhamidipaty and 16-year-old Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi will be the third match on Centre Court. Later in the day, 2022 Chennai Open champion Linda Fruhvirtova will begin her campaign against qualifier Astrid Lew Yan Foon.
Second seed Francesca Jones of Great Britain and India’s top-ranked player Sahaja Yamalapalli will also feature in Tuesday’s line-up. The doubles first-round matches will now commence from Wednesday.
