Following a perfect opening day that saw Team India take a commanding 2-0 lead over Switzerland in their Davis Cup tie, Captain Rohit Rajpal emphasized that the team must guard against complacency and maintain their drive to secure the victory.
India produced an ideal start, with Dakshineshwar Suresh winning his debut singles match followed by a dominant victory from India’s number one, Sumit Nagal. While the position leaves India needing just one win from the remaining three matches, Rajpal was quick to insist that the objective remains singular: staying focused.
“Well, the plans are that we stay focused,” Rajpal stated firmly after the day’s play. “The tie is not over till it’s over.”
The captain acknowledged the strong position but immediately pivoted to the challenge that remains. “So we’re 2-0 up. Fine. But I think tomorrow is another day, and we need to keep our intensity up.”
With the crucial doubles match opening the next day’s proceedings, Rajpal confirmed the team is fully motivated to complete the mission.
“The boys are all keyed up,” he concluded. “And, you know, we like to cross the finish line as soon as we can.”
