Sumit Nagal Loses in Three Sets to Zeppieri; India’s Wimbledon Singles Campaign Ends

India’s top-ranked singles player Sumit Nagal bowed out of the Wimbledon 2025 qualifying tournament in the opening round, losing in three sets to Italy’s Giulio Zeppieri. The final score read 2-6, 6-4, 2-6 in favor of the left-handed Zeppieri, currently ranked No. 368.

After a sluggish start in the first set, Nagal fought back well to level the match by taking the second set 6-4. However, Zeppieri regained control in the decider, breaking early and maintaining his lead to seal the victory.

With Nagal’s defeat, the Indian singles challenge at Wimbledon ends on Day 1 of qualifying. Nagal, ranked No. 300, was seeking his first career win on grass.
