Ahmedabad, India – Indian Billie Jean King Cup player Vaidehi Chaudhari delivered a commanding performance, defeating Japan’s Honoka Kobayashi 6-1, 6-3 in the second round of the ITF W50 event held in her hometown of Ahmedabad.
Chaudhari, buoyed by the support of a passionate home crowd, showcased exceptional form, particularly in the first set. “Yeah, actually I played well. First set was really good. From the first point I was very solid,” Chaudhari stated in a post-match interview.
While Kobayashi offered stronger resistance in the second set, Chaudhari remained composed and maintained her momentum. “Second set, it was going close. I mean not close, but she played well. Like everyone tried their best. So she played well. But yeah, I was there and I hanged in and I won the match,” she explained.
The local support proved to be a significant advantage for Chaudhari. “Yeah, of course, it’s a pleasure to play in the home ground. Like the pavilion, the people are on your side. Like Ahmedabad is my own city. So yeah, it’s a pleasure to play in home ground,” she expressed.
Looking ahead to her upcoming quarterfinal match, where she is likely to face the second seed, Chaudhari remained focused and pragmatic. “Nothing much. Like I will play my game and I just think about one match at a time. So most probably I’ll be playing against second seed. So yeah, I’ll do my best,” she said.
Chaudhari’s victory has ignited excitement amongst local tennis fans, who are eager to see her continue her impressive run in the tournament. She thanked her fans, and expressed that she would continue to take each match as it came.
