Prarthana Thombare and Arianne Hartono reached the semis of the WTA L&T 125 Mumbai Open with an upset win over the No. 1 seeds at the Cricket Club of India arena.

Here is a brief transcript from their post match interview.

Congratulations for another win. What’s the secret behind your consistency as a team?

Arianne Hartono:
I think the fact that we try to have fun whenever we play. We just try to make sure that we don’t get down on ourselves. I think that’s the most important thing because when you start to go into this negative spiral, it just brings everything down.

Prarthana Thombare:
Yes.I think it really helps the energy because we’re always smiling and very bubbly on court and supporting each other.

What was different about today’s match compared to your previous wins?
Arianne Hartono:
I think this was just very consistent. We served well, we returned well.

We did exactly the right things on important points. We saw the game well, and they just struggled with what to do on our answers. We had good solutions to their problems, and that’s how we powered through the match.

Prarthana Thombare
We were very disciplined, and there was not a lot that we did wrong today. So we played a very high quality, high percentage match. So, yeah, did well.

Was there any moment today where you felt the game was slipping away?

Arianne Hartono:
No. Oh, not really. I think we had control of the game.

Prarthana Thombare
Yeah. Even if it looked a bit tighter in the second set, we were still a breakup, so I think we were always in control. Yeah, it gave us a little bit of air to breathe as we got through our service games, especially quite easily. Yeah, we did well and holding our serves, so it was pretty good.

I love playing with Prarthana.

Yeah, we’re friends first, and I think that’s what happens.
