Indian tennis star Rutuja Bhosale, currently ranked World No. 468, suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the second round of the ITF W100 Araba Open in Spain, falling to the 19-year-old Czech rising star, Linda Fruhvirtova, in a thrilling three-set encounter. Fruhvirtova, who has been ranked as high as World No. 49, showcased her resilience and experience in a match that swung dramatically.
Bhosale started the match in dominant fashion, taking the first set 6-2 with a display of powerful groundstrokes and aggressive net play. She carried this momentum into the second set, building a commanding 6-2, 6-6 (6-3) lead and holding three match points.
However, Fruhvirtova refused to surrender. She saved all three match points and clawed her way back to win the second set tiebreak 8-6, forcing a decider.
The final set was a tense affair, with both players showcasing their fighting spirit. Fruhvirtova, buoyed by her second-set comeback, started to find her rhythm and took an early break. Bhosale fought valiantly but couldn’t regain her earlier dominance, eventually succumbing 3-6 in the final set.
Despite the heartbreaking loss, Bhosale’s performance in the tournament was commendable. She displayed her immense skill and proved that she can compete with some of the best players in the world.
