Sriram Balaji Records Maiden French Open Win

Sriram Balaji, currently ranked 84th in the world, achieved a significant victory at the French Open by teaming up with Mexico’s Miguel Ángel Reyes-Varela. The duo secured a straight-sets win against the pairing of Reese Stalder from the United States and Sem Verbeek from the Netherlands, with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-4 in the first round.

Balaji and Reyes-Varela demonstrated excellent teamwork and strategy, overpowering their opponents with consistent serves and precise volleys. This victory marks Balaji’s fourth win at the Grand Slam level (he’s won first round matches twice at the Australian Open and once at Wimbledon).

Looking ahead, Balaji and Reyes-Varela are most likely going to face the 16th seeds, the French duo Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul, in the second round.

Balaji’s progress at the French Open continues to be a significant milestone in his career, and is doubly significant given Rohan Bopanna is set to choose his partner for the Paris Olympics by June 10.
