Commanding Indoor Run Culminates in a Three-Set Final Thriller

Competing on the indoor hard courts of the Tennis BC Hub @ Richmond from October 4 to 10, 2026, Advay Singh (USA, ITF Jr 595) headlined a landmark week in British Columbia. The 2026 J30 Richmond tournament marked the first international junior event at the venue contested under the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors’ new hybrid competition format, which divides the 32-player field into eight four-player round-robin groups before advancing the eight group winners into a single-elimination quarterfinal knockout bracket.

Placed atop Group A in the round-robin stage, Singh set a blistering tone from the opening day. He opened his campaign with a clinical 6-1, 6-1 victory over Canada’s Yvan-Raphael N Mefire (CAN, ITF Jr 4427), dictating play from the baseline and neutralizing service returns inside the court. He followed up with a composed 6-3, 6-1 win over Eli Marks (CAN, ITF Jr 3864) in his second group outing before sealing top spot in Group A with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over William Chen (CAN, ITF Jr 2744). Across six round-robin sets, the sixteen-year-old American dropped just 10 games in total to advance unbeaten into the last eight.

In the knockout quarterfinals, Singh faced Group F winner Ilya Sherifali (CAN, ITF Jr 1369), an in-form Canadian who went on to capture the J30 Richmond Boys’ Doubles title alongside Alden Yu later in the week. After racing through the opening set 6-1, Singh saw Sherifali level the contest by taking the second set 6-4. Refusing to yield momentum in the decider, Singh tightened his first-serve percentage and broke decisively to close out a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 victory and book his place in the semifinals.

Matched against Group E winner Ryder Danis (CAN, ITF Jr 1191) in the last four, Singh returned to straight-sets efficiency. Absorbing pace off both wings and transitioning smoothly to the forecourt, he broke in each set to secure a 6-4, 6-3 semifinal win and advance to his first career ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors singles final.

The championship match pitted Singh against Group B winner Deniz Karabulut (CAN, ITF Jr 794), who had navigated past Daniel Kamhi and Liam Suh in the bottom half of the draw. What ensued was the standout contest of the tournament—a high-intensity, three-set marathon decided by the slimmest of margins. Singh drew first blood by edging a tight opening-set tiebreak 7-6(3), showcasing poise under pressure during extended baseline exchanges. Karabulut responded with an early break in the second set to level the final at 6-3, forcing a decisive third set that went all the way to a championship tiebreak before the Canadian prevailed 6-7(3), 6-3, 7-6(4).
