Dev Javia is into his first professional final.
The 24-year-old left-hander dug himself out of a 2-4 hole in the second set to beat Morocco’s Yassine Smiej 6-4, 7-5 in the semifinals of the M15 Hurghada in Egypt.
Javia, ranked ATP 1162, was the steadier player over the two sets, winning 70 points to Smiej’s 60. He also made the most of his chances on return, converting 5 of 7 break points against the world No. 1196.
It’s the breakthrough result Javia has been chasing on tour — his first appearance in a pro final after grinding through the ITF circuit.
What’s Next
Javia will face 7th seed Aaron Funk, ranked ATP 939, in Sunday’s final. Funk goes in as the higher-ranked player, but Javia will carry the momentum of a hard-fought comeback win into the title match.
A win would give the Indian his first professional title.
