Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi wins three-set battle on Roland-Garros Junior Championships debut

India’s Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi came back from 1-4 down in the first set to beat China’s Yihan Qu 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 on her Roland-Garros debut on Sunday, reaching the second round of the Girls’ Singles.

Qu, a tall left-hander, made a strong start and raced to a 4-1 lead in the opening set. Maaya then won five games in a row to take the set 6-4 — a significant turnaround against an opponent who had taken a set off WTA top-100 player Tamara Korpatsch at the WTA 500 event in Ningbo in October 2025.

Qu responded in the second set, playing with more authority to win it 6-2 and level the match. Maaya managed just two games as the Chinese player took control of the set from the front.

Any concern about a second-set setback was short-lived. Maaya came out sharp in the third, broke early, and did not look back — winning the set 6-1 to close out the match and book her place in round two.

Maaya, ranked 28 in the junior circuit, will face Makarova next. Seeded eighth and ranked 14 in the junior world rankings, Makarova represents a potentially formidable next challenge, but Maaya’s performance against Qu will give her plenty to build on.
