AITA Welcomes High Court Order on 2024 Polls and Reaffirms Commitment to Governance Reforms and Holistic Growth

All India Tennis Association

All India Tennis Association (AITA) today expressed its gratitude to the Delhi High Court for opening the sealed envelope and declaring the results of the AITA elections held in September 2024, giving reigns of AITA in the hands of the new unanimously elected office bearers and the Executive Committee. This brings much-needed administrative clarity to the functioning of tennis in the country.

Welcoming the above development, AITA Hon. Secretary General Sunder lyer said, “This is an important step towards ensuring transparency and stability in the functioning of the federation.”

Mr. lyer further affirmed AITA’s commitment to time-bound constitutional amendments required for strict adherence to the National Sports Governance Act, 2025, that will result in governance reforms, transparency and process of collective decision making, with inclusion of players’ participation in the functioning of AITA.

“We are fully committed to ensuring that AITA’s framework is in line with modern governance standards and statutory requirements,” he said.

Mr. lyer said, “AITA reiterates its commitment that once the constitution of AITA is amended, it will conduct fresh elections in a time-bound manner, in compliance with the provisions of the National Sports Governance Act, 2025.”

Outlining the federation’s roadmap, lyer emphasized a broader vision aimed at strengthening the entire tennis ecosystem in India, by including the players’ participation.

He said, “AITA is in the process of creating a roaster of Sportspersons of Outstanding Merit (SOM) and crystalizing athletes committee for allowing representation to the players (male and female) in the functioning of AITA as per National Sports Governance (National Sports Bodies) Rules, 2026. Our goal is to create a system that benefits all stakeholders, from grassroots-level junior players to elite professionals. Special emphasis will be placed on nurturing junior tennis, which remains the foundation of the sport’s future in the country.”

He added that AITA’s long-term vision includes significant improvements in infrastructure, enhancement of coaching standards, and increasing the number of international and domestic tournaments hosted in India.

“We want to provide our players with more opportunities at home while raising the overall competitive standard,” he noted.

Highlighting a more holistic approach to player development, lyer said, “We are determined to guide players right from their junior days, particularly in areas such as fitness, discipline, and long-term athlete development. Building well-rounded athletes is central to our vision.”

Importantly, he stressed that AITA’s plans are not limited to metropolitan cities, but they also cover non-urban towns and distant areas of India’s North- East. “This is an all-inclusive vision. We aim to take tennis to regions that have been historically neglected and ensure that talent from every corner of the country gets access to quality infrastructure, coaching, and competitive exposure. AITA, hereby, reiterates its resolve to usher in a new era of transparency, inclusiveness, and an all-round growth for Indian tennis.” he said.
