Sid Rawat won his Qualifying Round 1 against Nitin Kumar Sinha at the 10th DafaNews Bengaluru Open. ITD caught up with him after his 6-3 7-5 win.
Interviewer: Congrats on the win. Could you talk us through the match a little bit?
Sid Rawat: It was a good, close match. In the first set it was neck to neck, but somehow I got lucky on a few occasions and was able to break him and hold my serve. In the second set, I had a little bit of a slow start. He was serving for the set (5-3). Then I was able to return well and somehow was able to close the second set as well.
Interviewer: How did it feel to comeback from 3-5 down. What was the strategy?
Sid Rawat: I was trying not to think too much about the results. I was trying to focus on the process and then started to work on my returns. It was more of an instinct play (sic) than strategy.
Interviewer: In the next match you’ll be facing either a Ukranian (Dzhavakian) or a Frenchman (Gautier). Thoughts on the match? (He faces Gautier)
Sid Rawat: As of now I’m not thinking too much, it will be more of an instinct play (sic) because then I may overthink things and mess it up, so it’s more of instinct for tomorrow and hopefully it’s a positive result.
Interviewer: Last question, your goals for this year?
Sid Rawat: I don’t want to talk about goals as of now. I have many Futures and Challengers lined up in India. So I want to gain as much points as I can so that I have a chance during the next Davis Cup.
