The ITF W15 Gurugram tournament is off to an exciting start, with six Indian players successfully advancing to the singles Round of 16. The opening round featured several hard-fought matches, with Indian players showcasing their talent on home soil.
A standout performance came from top seed Zeel Desai, who came back from a set down against fellow Indian Sahira Singh to secure a hard-fought victory with a score of 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. Third seed Akanksha Dileep Nitture also booked her spot in the next round after defeating Prathyusha Rachapudi 7-6(2), 6-3.
The eighth seed, Soha Sadiq, also moved on with a convincing 6-4, 6-0 victory over Bela Tamhankar. Wildcard Laxmisiri Dandu overcame a first-set setback to eventually win 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 against Paavanii Pathak. Another impressive win was by wildcard entry Shruti Ahlawat, who earned a 6-1, 6-1 win against Diva Bhatia. Rounding out the Indian winners was Pooja Ingale, who defeated Mirudhula Palanivel 6-2, 1-6, 6-2.
Other Indian players, including Apurva Vemuri, Mahika Khanna, Sandeepthi Singh Rao, Aditi Rawat, Laalitya Kalluri, Janani Ramesh, Jeetesh Kumari, Sonal Patil, and Aarnavi Tomar Aura, endured tough losses in their first-round matches.
