Indian-American tennis player Hibah Shaikh capped off a perfect two-week swing on Brazilian clay, capturing her second consecutive professional title by winning the ITF W15 tournament in Sao Luis do Maranhao.
In the championship match on Sunday, Shaikh defeated Argentina’s Martina Capurro Taborda in a commanding straight-sets victory, 7-5, 6-2, to secure the trophy.
The victory in Sao Luis highlights a phenomenal run of form for the former University of Virginia standout. This title comes just one week after Shaikh secured the biggest win of her career at the W35 tournament in Cuiaba, Brazil. In that final, Shaikh staged a dramatic comeback to defeat top-seeded Argentinian Jasmin Ortenzi 1-6, 7-6, 6-2.+1
By winning back-to-back ITF singles titles at two different levels, Shaikh has established significant momentum and will see a major boost in her WTA rankings.
