Ashutosh Singh Named India’s New Davis Cup Coach

Ashutosh Singh, a former national grasscourt champion and pro, has been appointed as the new coach of the Indian Davis Cup team. The 41-year-old Singh, based out of New Delhi, reached a career-high ATP Singles ranking of 525 and a Doubles ranking of 150. Singh takes over from Zeeshan Ali, who had stepped down from the post just a few days ago.

Singh has previously served as the captain and coach of the Indian tennis team at the 2017 Asian Indoor Games in Turkmenistan, where the team included the likes of Sumit Nagal, Ankita Raina, Vishnu Vardhan, Vijay Sundar Prashanth, etc.

Interestingly, tennis runs in the Singh family. Ashutosh’s sister, Shalini Thakur Chawla, was recently named coach of the Indian Billie Jean King Cup team, and their father, Balram Singh, is also a respected tennis coach. This new role marks another significant step in Singh’s tennis journey, as he takes on the responsibility of guiding India’s top players in the prestigious Davis Cup. Singh is likely to begin duties from the India vs Sweden World Group I tie to be held in Stockholm on 14-15 September, 2024.
