‘Be Aggressive’ – Kadhe/Chandrasekar’s mantra as they upset top seeds in Newport

Event: ATP 250 Newport Infosys Hall of Fame Open – Doubles Match
Date: July 17, 2024
Players: Anirudh Chandrasekar (India) & Arjun Kadhe (India) vs Jackson Withrow (USA) & Nathaniel Lammons (USA)

‘Be aggressive’ was the game plan and it worked for Anirudh and Arjun against the top seeded team from USA (I did in fact hear Arjun say these words to Anirudh in between points in the second set). It was good to see them enjoying their game and pushing each other throughout.

The Indian duo were very clinical today. With 2 aces and a good first serve success rate, they were in control throughout the first set. With a break early in the set they went up 3-1 and from there on they stuck to their game plan to win the first set 6-3 in 24 minutes.

A couple of double faults at a crucial juncture in the 6th game of the second set let the Americans gain the advantage which they eventually won 6-3. In the super tie-break the Indian pair upped their game and improved their first serve performance. It was a closely fought tie break that was closed 10-7 with a superb ace right on the center service line.

Indian team won with a final score of : 6-3 3-6 10-7
