Adhithya, a West Lafayette (Indiana)-born player, coming to the Infosys Hall of Fame Open Qualies by a wildcard and with an ATP Singles ranking of #1192, especially struggled with his first serve in the first set. The routined Australian Marc Polmans, sixth-seeded in the two-round entry competition to main draw, found the right plays to take profit of that. Even though Adhithya managed to break the Australian’s serve once in the first set, the former ATP #116 player came with nine years of experience on the professional tour and especially converted the crucial points majorly. The first set scoreline was 2-6 from the perspective of the 18-year old US-American with Indian roots, who had his first singles appearance on the ATP Tour at all (after a first round one at the 2023 US Open men’s doubles).
Even though Polman’s first serve became less effective in the second set, the storyline of the match was similar. Adhithya played well and gained valuable experience on the traditional grass courts at Newport, Rhode Island. Polmans was strong in the second serve and finally cruised through the second set with the same scoreline.
