Indian Tennis star Sumit Nagal is set to take on top seed and 40th ranked Italian Luciano Darderi in an all-important final at the big ATP 125 Perugia Challenger in Italy. Nagal has captured everyone’s attention after his superhuman effort of winning 9 strenuous clay court matches in 11 days.
Irrespective of the result in the final today, Nagal is set to move up to a career high ATP Ranking of at least 71 tomorrow. In case he wins, he will move up to at least 61, thereby achieving Project 61, a target he’s been chasing his entire career.
What is Project 61?
To have a Top 100 singles player from India is rare. Somdev Devvarman, Nagal’s mentor, is India’s third highest ATP ranked player ever. One of Nagal’s biggest targets has been to surpass his ranking of 62, which he can by being ranked at least 61. That is how the project’s name has been derived.
