Nagal Cruises Past 8th seed Cobolli in Monte Carlo Masters Qualifiers

Sumit Nagal, the Indian No. 1, wasted no time asserting his dominance on the clay courts of Monte Carlo, cruising past 63 ranked Italian Flavio Cobolli in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) to kick off his qualifying campaign at the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters on Saturday, April 6th, 2024.

Nagal displayed a clinical performance from the outset, showcasing sharp groundstrokes and exceptional court coverage. His powerful forehand found its mark consistently, keeping Cobolli on the back foot. A break of serve in the fourth game of the second set set the tone for Nagal, who maintained control to comfortably close it out at 6-2.

The second set saw a more determined fight from Cobolli. However, the Indian star responded emphatically with a break of serve in the eighth game, showcasing his mental resilience. Nagal served out the match confidently at 6-3. He will be up against the winner of the match between 3rd seed Diaz Acosta and Diego Schwartzman.

This victory marks a significant step forward for Nagal, who seeks to make his main draw debut at the Monte Carlo Masters. His clean performance on clay bodes well for his chances in the coming rounds.
