97th ranked wildcard Sumit Nagal lost to 48th ranked Italian Lorenzo Sonego 4-6, 7-5, 1-6 in the 1st round of the 2024 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. Nagal did well to compete with the much higher ranked Italian in the first two sets, but was hampered by physical issues in the 3rd set.

“Really tough match. Great battle. He had some problem in the third set and I feel sorry for him.
I still needed to stay focused every point. I know the situation was tough. But happy to reach the 2nd round. I feel confident on this court. Last year I played really well making the quarter-final, and today as well”
Nagal will next take part in the qualifying of the Indian Wells Masters from 4th March.
