Pune , December 22:  Indian players lost their steam and were shown the door in the second round of the singles  at the 20th edition of the NECC Deccan ITF $25000 Women’s Tennis Tournament  organised under the auspices of the ITF, AITA and MSLTA by Deccan Gymkhana and sponsored by National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) and being played at the Deccan Gymkhana Tennis Courts.

Eight foreigners entered the quarterfinals as four Indians in action went Down . Fifth seeded Nigina Abduraimova  of Uzbekistan was given a tough fight by qualifier Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty before. Going down    6-4, 3-6, 6-2; in a tussle lasting    

In another close match eighth seeded Valeriya Strakhova  of  Ukraine  had to rely on all her experience to get past Wildcard Vaidehi Chaudhari  7-5, 6-4 ,  third seeded Chihiro Muramatsu  of Japan proved too strong for Wildcard Farhat Aleen Qamar ending her run 6-2, 6-0.
Indian hope Karnab Kaur Thandi fresh from her triumph in Europe  looked like going for a big kill as she took the first set off top seeded Nefisa Berberovic of Bosnia Herzegovina but the top seed came back to win the second set 6-4 and lead 2-0 before Karman Kaur Thandi Retired due to elbow injury. The only solace for the indians was the four players got 7 WTA points for reaching round two,

In the two upsets of the day unseeded  Ekaterina Reyngold of Russia outplayed sixth seeded  Akiko Omae of Japan 6-1, 6-1  but unseeded Japanese  Moyuka Uchijima upset seventh seeded Ekaterina Yashina  of Russia 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 to enter the last eight of the event
