The draws were indeed no lucky ones for our Divij Sharan: as well as in the first week (called bett1HULKS Indoors), Sharan had to face a seeded, strong pairing in the 1st round of the second week of Cologne’s ATP 250 double-header, held at LANXESSarena. In the second week called bett1HULKS Championship, Sharan paired up with US player Tennys Sandgren. Their opponents: the Austrian-Croatian routined line-up Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic.

While Sharan and Sandgren started quite well to the match, they got broken in the fifth game of the first set. There were rare opportunities in all over the match against the team in serve – so hitting some good returns in a row was just too crucial on this evening on the Cologne Court 1. There just hasn’t been a chance to come back to first set, losing 4-6.

Sandgren and Sharan looked more pleasing in the second set, but after some very straight and easy games at serve, Sandgren lost his line in the fifth game. The second seeded were just too routined and coverted the second break point out of a potential series of four ones. That was the turning point, finally, the match went straight for Marach and Pavic, who finally beat Sharan and Sandgren 6-4 6-2
