Weekly Roundup 2020.01.27: Ankita Raina claims double crown in Thailand, Rajeev Ram wins Australian Open Mens’ Doubles

ITF Futures-Women

Ankita Raina put up a dominant show to win both the singles and doubles titles in $25K event at Nonthaburi. This was just at the right time as Ankita is losing a whole host of points this week of a title in Singapore and Australian open last year and is falling back close to 200 this week. But, with this title she will come back and get back to around 175 next week.

Singles

Doubles

Riya Bhatia who also played in the main draw here lost in the first round in straight sets.Also a lot of Indian player played in qualifying of both men and women. Of these only Siddharth Rawat and Manish Sureshkumar reached the final qualifying round after winning two matches but both lost in third set super tie breaks.

ATP Challenger tour

The only Indian who played the challenger tour this week was Purav Raja in doubles in France. He lost in the SF along side his Canadian partner.

Indian Origin and other players of interests

American of Indian origin, Rajeev Ram won his second career Grand Slam and maiden Mens’ Doubles Grand Slam title on Sunday. Partnering Joe Salisbury, the duo defeated Aussie wildcard pairing of Max Purcell & Luke Saville 6-4 6-2 to lift the Australian Open doubles title.

ITF Futures-Men

Vijay Sundar Prashant & partner Maximilan Neuchrist reached the doubles quarterfinals in the $25k ITF event in Nonthaburi, Thailand. Gunjan Jadhav partnering Yurii Dzhavakian reached the semi-finals of $15k event in Cairo, Egypt.

Juniors

Juniors event in Indore were all-Indian affairs as, Reshma Maruri claimed ITF J5 Indore Girls’ singles title beating Sanjana Sirimalla 3-6 6-4 6-4. In the boys’ singles event Aman Dahiya defeated Denim Yadav 6-3 7-5.
