Ankita Raina, who had defeated Sabine Lisicki earlier in the grass court season, came into the match high on confidence after securing a straight sets win in the first qualification round.

The match started on a tough note for the Indian as the German girl came out all guns blazing and raced away to take the first set 61.

Sensing the need to change the approach, Ankita took a longish pause in the break to recompose her thoughts. It appeared to have helped as Ankita took the first game without losing a point.

The match was much closer from then on and Ankita even had an upper hand with a 5-3 15-0 lead in the second set but Sabine used her experience to claw back and then take it to the tie-breaker.

Sabine, former Wimbledon finalist, used her expertise on grass to prevail in the tie-breaker to take the match 61 76(4).
