Marius Copil is one of the leading lights of Mens tennis in Romania. He is the Romanian Singles No.1 and has paired with our own Rohan Bopanna for this French Open.
Excerpts from the brief conversation with him below where Marius shares detail on the partnership with Rohan.
How did the partnership come about?
Rohan Bopanna had asked me in Rome if I would like to partner with him. I said why not as I’ve known Rohan for many years now and Rohan also had very good results with a Romanian partner, so he was well known. I also drink his coffee which is very good. He is also an extremely nice guy and I now have the privilege to play with him.
This is our first tourney together and we are already feeling pretty good without much practice (as I was playing singles here). It clicked from the right go and I hope we can continue the momentum forward.
Its nice to pair up with Bopanna. I can learn a lot by playing with him.
This is your best result in Grand Slam doubles.
I hadn’t focused on doubles much. I only played about 3-4 events till now. Its nice to play doubles as it helps me improve my singles game as well. Its even better if one gets to play with a nice partner and Rohan is a very nice guy. Lets see how far we can go here.

How long is the commitment to each other.
Its just for this tourney as of now. I know that he has some commitments in place already for some of the other events. My ranking is not quite good enough right now but who knows, if we can make a great result here then things could change.
